Hero For a Day at Kutz Prairie on Saturday May 5. Members and non members and any one interested in prairies, please join us for the Field & Stream and Toyota trucks Hero For a Day in honor of Randy Schindle. The Outdoor Network will be here filming the event and working with us for a day of Prairie Restoration and education.
We will be joined by Prairie Ecologist Fred Harris of the MN DNR and also Joe Stangel Area Wildlife Manager MN DNR. We will host tours of the site and also have our guest speak on the importance of the work we are doing in preserving a piece of the Tallgrass prairie, and how vital this type of habitat is for all wildlife.
The day starts out with brush removal, (most is cut already) tours and talks, lunch ( hotdogs & chips & beverage, provided) prescribed fire demonstration if weather permits. This day is all about prairie & education and Randy's leadership in putting this group together. If your physical capabilities are limited, we can find a place for you registering people as they arrive or helping with lunch. We all need to sign a waiver of liability as part of the agreement with Field & Stream and Toyota Trucks, also for the security of our landowner. We will have a portable toilet on site. Please make sure to register as you arrive as the first 50 people will receive a gift bag.
This is a unique opportunity to view one of the finest privately owned prairie's in our area, and I would like to remind everyone that this is not open to the public unless by invitation from the owner or a scheduled work event hosted by the Many Rivers Chapter of The Prairie Enthusiast.
We need your help in making this event a success, as this will be on a national network TV. Please RSVP via email if you plan on attending, and do so no later than Thursday evening by 8:00 pm so that we may plan for food. Come prepared to work and learn about the prairie, bring leather gloves & work boots, spray for insects and ticks.
If you have any questions, please contact Randy Schindle at 507-380-2809 or email or Scott Seigfreid

Who we are |
Many Rivers is a chapter of The Prairie Enthusiasts, a non-profit grassroots conservation organization. We work throughout Blue Earth, Brown, Faribault, Freeborn, Martin, Nicollet, Waseca and Watonwan counties in South Central Minnesota. Long term goals for the Many Rivers Chapter include:
1.) Provide labor and assistance to members and non-members in preserving, restoring, expanding, maintaining and enhancing native prairie and oak savannah habitats.
2.) Educate members as well as the general public on sound land management options, specifically as it pertains to native prairie and oak savannah habitats.
3.) Train members in methods of prescribed burning and form burn teams to assist members in completing prescribed burns.
4.) Obtain easements or out-right land purchases of high quality prairie remnants.
5.) Provide a forum and/or opportunities for members and the general public to further expand their appreciation of prairie and oak savannah habitats. |
|
What we plan for 2010 (our first year!)Goals for 2010 include:
1.) Focus on chapter organization, creating a membership base with active members.
2.) Complete two acres of native remnant enhancement by removing brush and trees, pre-burn weed control and inter-seeding from native prairie remnants where appropriate.
