Our 2012 Annual Conference and Banquet is being co-hosted by the Chippewa Savannas and St. Croix Chapters. The theme for
the conference is "TPE at 25: The Journey to Prairie Preservation."

Registration
Registration is now closed! Walk-ins at the conference will be accepted. Walk-ins for the banuqet will be accepted only if there is available space.

Venue
The prairie conference will be held at the UW-Stout Campus, Menomonie, WI. Driving directions and a campus map. Please use parking lots 18 or 29; no permit is needed.
The doors open at 8:00 a.m. for check-in and continental breakfast.
Agenda
Conference begins at 9:00 with a keynote speaker (see below)
Concurrent sessions begin at 10:10.
Lunch from 12:00 - 1:20 (included in conference fee).
Afternoon concurrent sessions from 1:30 - 3:15 pm
Management roundtable from 3:30 - 4:15 pm
Social mixer (Cash Bar) and poster session from 4:30 - 5:45 pm

Conference keynote speaker
Stephan Packard
Stephen Packard is Founding Director of the Chicago area programs of the National Audubon Society
and teaches at Northwestern University. For more than three decades he’s been known for creative
approaches to on-the-ground conservation action, scientific research, education, and grass roots
constituency for the lands known as Chicago Wilderness. It has organized the "Habitat Project" through which hundreds of
"citizen scientists" work with scores of leadership professionals in monitoring and protecting over
200,000 acres of conservation land. Packard was the initiator of Chicago Wilderness which in a few
years became a globally respected collaboration of more than 200 national and local conservationminded
agencies. He has extensive experience in the restoration of prairies and oak woodlands. His work on the oak ecosystems in particular has led to new
insights that have clarified ideas about the composition and dynamics of these vanishing rare
communities.

Doug Tallamy is Professor and Chair of the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology
and director of the Center for Managed Ecosystems at the University of Delaware in
Newark, Delaware, where he has authored 73 research articles and has taught Insect
Taxonomy, Behavioral Ecology, and other courses for 30 years. Chief among his
research goals is to better understand the many ways insects interact with plants and
how such interactions determine the diversity of animal communities. His book "Bringing
Nature Home; How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens" was published by
Timber Press in 2007 and was awarded the 2008 silver medal by the Garden Writer's
Association.

Finalist photos from the 2012 TPE Photo Contest will be on display during the conference and banquet. Attendees will vote for their favorite photo and the winner will be used for the cover of the next annual report.
