Conservation easements are a good form of protection if the landowner wishes to retain ownership of the land. Lands with conservation easements are privately owned lands and are NOT open to the public.
The easement restricts land use and activities to preserve the value of the land, in our case, prairie and savannas. Each conservation easement is tailored to a particular property and a particular landowner, while ensuring it meets our conservation goals. Registered in the public records, a conservation easement is binding on the current and all future owners of the property.
If you are interested in creating an easement for your property, contact Debra Behrens, TPE Executive Director.
