Come spend time collecting seed of various prairie and savanna plants. These seeds are critical to our efforts to recover these original ecosystems on a large scale at Mounds View Grassland and other TPE conservation projects. We plant seed across 40-70 acres each year and need hundreds of pounds of seed of more than 100 species in order to gradually bring back the full richness of the original prairies, wetlands, and savannas.
What to Bring/Wear: Bring gloves, long pants, long-sleeved shirt, water, and hat. They are a necessity in doing this type of activity. If you have hand pruners, bring them, otherwise they will be provided.
Location: Meet at Schurch-Thomson Prairie (8624 Reilly Road, Barneveld, WI).
We’ll be collecting at the Mounds View Grassland complex and other sites within several miles. Call ahead as collecting locations may vary.
Directions: 8624 Reilly Rd, Barneveld. From the intersection of US Hwy 18-151 and County F (south of Blue Mounds in western Dane County), take F approximately 5 miles south. Turn right onto Reilly Road and proceed to parking lot and kiosks at the end of the road (past the barn). Note: A half mile down F from 18-151, pay close attention to the road signs, as F turns to the right & the straight-ahead road becomes County Z. Stay on F.
