This is a non-prairie hike. Several Coulee Region Chapter members have visited this unique State Natural Area and want to offer a hike to those interested in an ecosystem much different than prairie or savanna. These are moist woods full of spring ephemerals and other spring blooming species. Unique species such as twinleaf, goldenseal, great waterleaf, and moschatel should all be in bloom, as well as lots of common spring ephemerals like hepaticas, Dutchman’s breeches, and squirrel corn. Learn more at: Eureka Maple Woods State Natural Area - Wisconsin DNR. We'll meet at TPE-member Jon Rigden's cabin near the SNA. The cabin is easily visible from the road. You can drive back to the cabin on a smooth gravel road, though you will have to cross a shallow stream.
