Join us on August 20th and 21st to help with Savanna restoration near Wabasha
Some prairie enthusiasts have said they're only available to help on August 21st, so we'll have workdays on BOTH August 20th as well as August 21st
August 20th and Aug 21st, 8:00 am to 2:00 pm
Join us at Tom Hunter's farm (23257 685th Street, Wabasha MN 55981) on either August 20th or August 21st (or both days) to help with a 30-acre savanna restoration project funded through cost-sharing by the landowner with the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service. Most of the tree and brush cutting has been done by contractors but Tom could use some help with stacking the cut material.
If you'd like to help, bring decent footwear (boots would be best), gloves, insect repellent, sunscreen, plenty of water or sports drink to keep you hydrated, and snacks to keep you feeling energized during the workday.
Most of the work will involve stacking logs and limbs that have already been cut. However, there will probably be a need for some cutting to make logs and limbs smaller and easier to stack. If you have a chainsaw you could bring, along with fuel/oil as well as protective gear such as chaps and eye protection, feel free to do so.
If the weather forecast for either day doesn't look good then Tom will contact people to cancel or postpone one or both of the workdays. If you'd like to help out on either day you'll need to RSVP (see below) so you'll get any updates about cancellations or postponements due to the weather.
Please RSVP to Tom Hunter at [email protected] and let him know if you can make it. It's important to RSVP so you'll know if bad weather cancels or postpones the workday on either the 20th or 21st.
