Lend a hand removing brush to burn piles and installing native plants!
The Minnesota Driftless Chapter (MDC) of The Prairie Enthusiasts is partnering with the City of Rochester to help restore an oak savanna in one of the City's neighborhood parks. Work has already been underway earlier this summer to clear European buckthorn. Now need volunteers to help haul the cut buckthorn and create burn piles. There are also some native plants that need to be installed at the site.
This is an excellent opportunity for MDC members in Rochester and surrounding areas to get involved in ecological restoration, and to invest in a project we can track through time while enjoying the benefits of public access.
Please bring your own water, snacks, gloves, and sunscreen. Due to COVID-19, we will not be able to provide those things and masks will be required. Hand tools including shovels, pruners, loppers, hand saws, etc. will be provided by the City and will be sanitized both before and after each use. We will also maintain social distancing (6’) to keep folks safe.
