Sleepy Hollow Oak Opening Guided Walk

Sleepy Hollow Oak Opening - the hike begins at 3:00 p.m.. (Note time change from 1:00 pm in the field trip guide. If anyone shows up early they will be shown around.)

Steve Querin-Schultz, landowner and TPE member, will host a guided walk to view the early stages of an “oak opening” recreation. A former degraded pasture and woods were covered with prickly ash, multi-flora rose and many other invasives. For the past 3 years, Steve has cleared and changed the character of these 9 acres of land.  Learn some of the techniques that Steve has used to reclaim the land and how to implement these practices on your own property.

Following the hike, @ 4:00 p.m., refreshments will be served and Jim Schultz, from Clintonville, will present "The Secret Lives of Native Plants" which includes photos and stories of the bizarre and macabre activities that happen in native prairies. After 35 years as a Biology teacher, Jim has "retired" and devoted many hours photographing, documenting and researching the insects on his prairie and landscape.

AND at 5 p.m., the SW Chapter will be holding their annual potluck dinner and all are invited to stay for dinner and conversation!
